International Catholic Deaf Association (ICDA) Chapter 18

The International Catholic Deaf Association (ICDA) is a faith-based organization that offers a sense of community and spiritual belonging for Deaf and hard-of-hearing Catholics, as well as for hearing individuals who are committed to supporting them. Established in 1949, ICDA's mission is centered around helping Deaf people grow in their faith, develop meaningful relationships, and feel fully included in the Catholic Church. With a strong global presence that spans over 138 chapters, ICDA provides a platform for Deaf Catholics to come together, share their experiences, and support one another in their spiritual journeys. At the heart of ICDA's work is a commitment to spiritual growth, achieved through the teaching of the Catholic faith and the promotion of values that reflect the organization's core mission. Community building is another key aspect of ICDA's work, with local chapters and conferences providing opportunities for Deaf Catholics to gather, pray, learn, and socialize. ICDA also prioritizes education, leadership development, and raising awareness about Deaf culture and the contributions Deaf people make to the Church. Through its programs and initiatives, including conferences, retreats, mission funding, and The Deaf Catholic magazine, ICDA seeks to empower Deaf people, ensuring they feel valued, respected, and integral to the life of the Church. As Chapter 18 in Cleveland, our chapter is part of this larger community, striving to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where Deaf people can deepen their faith and feel a sense of belonging within the Catholic Church.

Our Sunday 10 am Mass is interpreted at St Charles Borromeo church in Parma, where our vibrant Deaf community gathers spiritually in prayer and fellowship, strengthening their bond with God and each other through the beauty of liturgy and sign language.

Deaf Mass

You are all warmly welcome to attend our Deaf Mass service, a unique and enriching experience, held at St Charles, where we will come together to share in the joy of worship and community through prayer and reflection. Our goal is to have a Deaf Mass once a month, providing a space for our community to grow in faith and fellowship. Opportunities to get involved in this meaningful experience include serving as a Lector for the 1st and 2nd readings, participating in the procession of the gifts as Gift Bearers, or assisting with the distribution of Holy Communion as Extraordinary Ministers. If any of these roles interest you and you would like to be a part of our vibrant community, kindly reach out to us. We are more than happy to provide the necessary training and support to ensure your participation is both rewarding and fulfilling.
